Class Notes: How has the world of advocacy and lobbying communication been shaped by the rise of social media over the past fifteen years? And WHERE do we see it going in the next five? Students will be exposed to the developments in a variety of “theaters”, including lobbying communication, political advocacy, health advocacy and the practice of medicine, as well as dissemination of policy.

Class Notes: Artificial intelligence is transforming how we understand, promote, and deliver health. This upper-division seminar moves beyond basic AI literacy to build applied professional competency at the intersection of health communication and emerging technology. Students first ground themselves in core health behavior theories and the technical workings of large language models. They then partner with community members to use generative AI tools in real campaign work. Finally, students turn a critical lens on AI itself, auditing tools for algorithmic bias, medical misinformation, and ethical failures in a capstone risk-assessment project. Students leave the course prepared to use AI ethically and strategically in health-related careers.
