Internal Communications at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA)
What does your current job entail?
My work primarily consists of writing GIA Monographs, which are special reports on remarkable gemstones. The monographs involve a great deal of research on the gemstones: from studying their possible geographic origins, to the fashioning to their shapes and cuts, to their clarity characteristics.
What did you do following graduation?
I worked for Barney’s New York as a copywriter in their jewelry area. I also have a jewelry line I am expanding upon now.
What are some of your favorite memories of the JPW program, or of your time serving on student media?
During my sophomore year at TCNJ, I started a fashion column for The Signal called Campus Style. Every other week, I interviewed students with unique personal styles to tell the story behind why they dress the way they do. I also served as president of Ed@TCNJ, which is TCNJ’s division of Ed2010, a networking organiation for aspiring magazine editors. It was great to be a part of a group where everyone shares similar goals and interests.
Do you have any advice for current students?
My advice for current students would be to embrace as many opportunities as possible. College is a time of personal growth and exploration. Get to know your real self and find what it is that inspires and fulfills you. Don’t waste time doing something you don’t love, just for the sake of doing it. Work hard, but remember not to be too hard on yourself.
