Assistant Editor at Psychology Today
What are some of your past positions?
Just two newspapers–the local, Bucks County Courier Times, and The Philadelphia Inquirer. I found an opportunity after graduation as an intern with Psychology Today. I was offered a full-time, staff position there during my time as an intern.
Memories of serving on student media
I’ve known for a long time that I wanted to write for a living, and in high school I had the opportunity to do so for my school paper and teen writers’ section in the local paper. That opportunity convinced me that I wanted to do journalism, so that’s what I went for in college.
Any advice for current students?
Many internships allow you to do work and get experience of the sort you’d be doing if you were working full-time, and the kind employers care about, so in lieu of a full-time opportunity, internships are imperative. Even after graduation I was fortunate to stumble into a job opportunity at just the right time, but other people I know who found work at interesting publications, including former PT interns, went on to complete two or more internships before getting there.
