What do you do in your current position?
I edit nonfiction children’s books for DK Publishing in New York and London.
What is your favorite part about your job?
My company publishes illustrated reference books, and the editors and designers are really hands-on. I get to come up for the original idea for a book, then shape it through the entire process. It’s a big challenge every time, but it also leaves a lot of room for creativity.
What made you choose journalism?
A publishing internship my junior year really cemented for me that I wanted to work in books. I’ve always loved writing and editing, and I’ve been a big reader my whole life. It just made sense.
Tell us about the importance of getting involved in student media at TCNJ.
I use the skills I learned working at The Signal every day: Working as a team to meet a deadline, thinking with a design brain and an editorial brain at the same time, making sure my text is clear and clean… Any journalism student who isn’t getting involved in student media isn’t taking full advantage of what the JPW program has to offer.
