Catherine Michaelsen

Assistant Editor for Psychology at Macmillan Education.

What past positions have you served?
My past positions include: Editorial Assistant for Psychology at Macmillan Education; Workshop Coordinator at Bedford, Freeman, and Worth Publishers (internships: Marketing Intern at Bedford, Freeman, and Worth Publishers; Communications Intern at New Jersey Council of County Colleges; Editorial Intern at Advantage Business Media).

What skills did you use from college to obtain these positions?
The most important skill I learned at TCNJ was how to network with other students and professors in order to find out about internship opportunities. I had 3 internships while in college, and the experience I gained at them absolutely helped me obtain a full-time job. I was also taught in my classes how to create resumes and cover letters that made me stand out when applying for jobs, and the communication skills I developed at TCNJ allowed me to excel during interviews.

What are your favorite memories from TCNJ?
My favorite memory from TCNJ was going to the Stud for free pizza during finals week.

What advice would you give to current Journalism students?
The best advice I can give to students is to network. It’s the most effective way to get internships, and internship experience is so important when it comes to standing out among other job applicants.
