The Professional Writing minor provides theoretical grounding and practical experience in professional communication across traditional and digital platforms. Students develop versatile writing skills applicable to journalism, public relations, advertising, marketing communications, and content strategy. Through collaborative projects with students in other media-related disciplines, you’ll gain real-world experience creating compelling content for diverse audiences and purposes—skills essential for careers in corporate communications, nonprofit organizations, media companies, and marketing agencies.

The minor requires five course units.

How to Apply

- Download and fill out the Change of Minor Form
- Select “Add Minor”
- We will obtain the department signature for you
Step 2: Upload Your Materials
- Submit the form to our online portal: CJF Form Uploads
Application Timeline and Next Steps
We accept applications on a rolling basis throughout the year. However, minors must be declared at least one semester prior to graduation.
After you submit your application:
- The department reviews your application
- Once approved, your minor will appear on PAWS
The process takes about 2 weeks (longer during registration periods).
