On Monday, March 23rd, 2020, the Department of Communications Studies hosted a webinar entitled “Branding Strategies & Social Media” with guest lecturers Kelcey Zacarese, Ruowen Meng, and Allison Wong. The webinar is part of Professor Xiaowen Xu’s Communication and Digital Advertising course. Kelcey Zacarese is the Manager in Strategy & Social Insights and both Ruowen Meng and Allison Wong are Senior Analytical Brand Strategists for BAV Group, a global consultancy with expertise in consumer insights and brand marketing strategy. Attendees were mostly students majored in Communication Studies and Marketing.

On Monday, February 24th, 2020, the Department of Communication Studies hosted a campus-wide lecture entitled “Technology & Programmatic Advertising 101” in the library auditorium, presented by Alice Huiwen Yang, programmatic solutions consultant from Amazon. The event was part of Professor Xiaowen Xu’s Communication and Digital Advertising class. Attendees were mostly students majored in Communication Studies and Marketing.
Members of the Senior Practicum class learned about breaking into careers in media production from three recent alumni on Wednesday, February 26th. Emily Fuentes, Social Media Editor at Whistle (a Youtube channel for sports prodigies), Will Wykoff, Multimedia Specialist at Deborah Heart and Lung Center, and Grace Hill, editor, videographer and designer at Branding Shorts (a video production and creative agency), gave advice to the graduating seniors about finding work in social media marketing, advertising, and video production.
